Walter “Al” Allen Lewis Jr. passed away at home on May 29. He was born Oct. 18, 1953 in New York City to Walter Allen and Althea (Bush) Lewis Sr.
Al graduated from Portland High School in 1972. Following high school he worked for Kmart Corporation as a sporting goods manager until 1982. He met Madelyn “Midge” Cunningham in Lewiston in 1976 and together they moved to Key Largo, Fla. in 1982. Al worked as a campground manager and charter fishing boat mate while living in Florida. He married Midge on the charter boat in 1986 and they moved to Nobleboro. He worked for Bob’s Electric and acquired the business in 1995 and changed the name to Lewis Electric. He owned and operated the business until his passing.
Al was a current selectman for the Town of Nobleboro and held office for the past five years. He was former president and current vice president of the North Nobleboro Community Association.
Anyone who knew Al knows that riding his motorcycle was his greatest passion. He attended the motorcycle rally in Laconia, N.H. every year. He was a member of the United Bikers of Maine. He also enjoyed going to the Montsweag Flea Market and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Louis Brown Sr.
He is survived by wife, Midge Lewis of Nobleboro; sisters, Linda Minott of Georgia, and Shari Shannon of Tennessee; step-brothers, Louis Brown Jr. and wife Gloria of Yarmouth, and Thomas Brown and wife Janice of South Portland; step-sisters, Charlotte Jackson and husband Fred of Ocala, Fla., and Carol Silva and husband Joe of Saco; half-brother, Keith Lewis of Portland; cousins, Michael Lewis of Southport, and Patsy Lewis of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m., Fri., June 10 at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. A reception will follow at the family home, 131 Upper East Pond Rd., Nobleboro, ME 04555.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al’s name to the North Nobleboro Community Association, c/o Mitchell Wellman, 573 East Pond Rd., Nobleboro, ME 04555.
