Wyota “Peggy” Mae Heikkinen, 93, passed away on Oct. 19 at Harbor Hill Center, in Belfast. She was born in Rowley, Mass., the daughter of Percy F. Purington and Delphine M. Saunders.
She graduated from high school in Massachusetts and then became a domestic housekeeper and clam shucker.
She also worked at Sylvania as a machine operator and coil inspector for 29 years and retired in 1984.
She loved crocheting, knitting, quilting, tole and wood painting.
She belonged to the Ladies Guild; Evening Star Grange in Washington; the PTA when her children were in school; and the Senior Citizens Club in Union. She was a member of the Washington Village Church and the Church of the Nazarene of North Waldoboro.
She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Arthur Daniel; second husband, Veini Heikkinen; daughter, Karen Daniel Barron; and son, Douglas Harvey Daniel.
She is survived by daughters, Kathryn Allred of Massachusetts, and Melinda Heikkinen of Seattle, Wash.; sons, Wesley Daniel and wife Kathleen of Washington, and Charles Daniel and wife Judith of Montville; brothers, Percy Purington Jr. and wife Joyce of Massachusetts, Leon Purington of Massachusetts, Earl Purington of California, and Harvey Purington and wife Lorraine of New Hampshire; sister, Amy Cain and husband Clifford of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m., Fri., Oct. 23 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 24 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Rev. Mark Holden will officiate.
