On Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Lincoln Academy, at 81 Academy Hill Road in Newcastle, will host its second annual LA Town Hall meeting in the Parker B. Poe Theater. Community members, parents, alumni, neighbors, and anyone curious about what is going on at the school are invited to attend.
“This meeting is a chance for the community to visit us on Academy Hill and ask any questions they may have about what is going on at Lincoln,” said Head of School David Sturdevant, who will host the meeting along with members of the LA Board of Trustees. “We hope people will join us and learn about some of the exciting things that are happening on the campus, including our new academic offerings and upcoming events. In addition, we will present information regarding our budget and strategic plan.”
The event will take place on the same night as the parent open house, when LA parents visit their students’ classes in a shortened version of a school day. “Our parent open house is an annual event, and many parents will already be on campus to meet their children’s teachers. We hope many of them will stay and participate in the LA Town Hall,” said Sturdevant. “This is a chance to learn more information about Lincoln Academy in a single evening.”
The LA Town Hall, which began in 2016, is a forum that replaced the tradition of opening the July trustee meeting to the public. “In order to reach more members of the community, we moved the school’s open meeting to September, when people are thinking about school and the campus is full of activity,” said Sturdevant. “Last year, we had great attendance, and we look forward to welcoming people to campus again this year.”
Participants in the LA Town Hall are encouraged to park in the student lot across from the Bailey Gymnasium and walk down the hill to the theater.
