Camden and Great Salt Bay School baseball teams battled through 13 innings in the Busline League championship game at Medomak Middle School June 10, before the Schooners emerged victorious 8-7 in the top of the 13th inning after three and a half hours of play.
Rain threatened all game, but held off until the top of the 12th inning when it began to drizzle. Rain was not a factor in the outcome of the game.
S. Gimlewicz walked, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on an I. Filderman sacrifice fly for the winning run for Camden.
Camden’s Connor Graffam (10I,8K,12H,0B) and GSB’s Travis Creamer (10I,3B,7K,5H) battled it out on the mound for the first 10 innings, before league officials decided they had pitched enough and pulled them in the 11th inning. Sean Pierce (3I,3K,3H,0B) came on in relief for Camden to collect the win, and Spencer Alden for the Cougars in the loss (3I,4K,3B,0H).
GSB took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Alex Tomasello singled, Creamer reached on an error and AJ Oliver singled. Camden tied the game in the top of the 2nd on two errors and singles to Gimlewicz and Filderman. Chandler Crans scored in the 3rd to give Camden the lead. GSB tied the score in the home half of the inning on a solo homerun to Creamer.
The Cougars plated two runs in the 4th on hits to Andrew Gallace, Derrick Woodbury, Tyler Peters and Alden. Camden got one run back in the 5th when Crans singled and scored on an error. GSB went back up by two in the fifth on singles to Oliver and Dustin Prior.
Camden took full advantage of two errors in the 7th inning to tie the score and force extra innings. Jay Chamberlain and John Hall scored in the inning.
The two teams battled through four scoreless innings. Camden scored in the top of the 12th when Crans reached on an error and scored on a Sean Pierce sacrifice. GSB met the challenge with a run in the bottom of the inning to again tie the game. Oliver hit a single and scored on a Dustin Prior double.
Camden scored the game winner in the 13th, then shut the Cougars down in order for the win.
Hitting for GSB were Prior with two doubles and two singles, Oliver three singles, Creamer a homerun and double, Tyler Peters two singles, Alden a double, and Tomasello, Andrew Gallace and Woodbury a single each. Hitting for Camden were Pierce with two singles, and Chamberlain, Crans, Gimlewicz, and Filderman a single each.
