Lincoln Academy baseball got back on the field on Monday after a 10-day lay-up due to rain. The Eagles have had just four outside practices all season because of wet field conditions.
Brandon Reilly struck out 14 (1B, 3H) in the cold and steady drizzle at Rockland to pick up the Eagles eighth win of the season. Reilly provided the firepower at the plate to help his own cause, driving in five runs with a grand slam homerun and single.
Alex Cosgrove and Dalton Leeman pitched in relief. Widdecomb took the loss in three innings, and Joe Nelson and Tony Campognoli pitched in relief.
Lincoln took a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning. Leeman singled, moved over on a Cosgrove sacrifice bunt and scored on a Reilly single. Everett Martin and Mardy Alden walked to set up RBI singles to Merritt Wotton, and Kyle Scherer and an RBI sacrifice to fly to Jeff Lamb. They added a run in the 3rd when Scherer singled, moved over on a Jeff Lamb single and scored on a passed ball. The Eagles scored three in the 5th when Lamb, Alden and Martin walked to load up the bases for an RBI single to Cosgrove, RBI walk to Reilly and RBI sacrifice fly to Martin.
Reilly smashed a bases loaded homerun in the 6th, scoring Alden, Leeman and Cosgrove.
Hitting for Lincoln were Reilly with a homerun and single, Wotton, Lamb and Scherer 2 singles each, and Leeman (scored 3 runs), Cosgrove, and Martin a single each. Hitting for Rockland were Nelson with 2 doubles and Campognoli and Dan Hendricks a single each.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Cosgrove singled and Brandon Reilly followed with a two run homerun. They plated four runs in the 2nd. Jeff Lamb, Mardy Alden and Bo McLain walked to load up the bases. Lamb and Leeman scored on wild pitches, Alden on a Leeman single, and Leeman on a Cosgrove fielder’s choice. McLain added a run in the 4th when he singled, moved over on singles to Leeman and Cosgrove and scored on a Reilly sacrifice fly. Lamb doubled in the fifth and scored on an Everett Martin single. Lincoln broke the game open in the 6th with three runs. Reilly singled, stole second and scored on a Kyle Scherer single. Oliver singled, Lamb hit an RBI double and Martin an RBI fielder’s choice.
Hitting for Lincoln were Scherer with a double and 2 singles, Reilly a homerun and single, Lamb 2 doubles, Leeman and Cosgrove 2 singles each, and McLain, Oliver and Martin a single each. Hitting for Belfast were Greg Clark with a double, and Damien Benner and Craig Hebert a single each.
