There will be a lot of familiar faces on Lincoln Academy’s basketball team this season, but the Eagles will sport a whole new look under first year coach Chris McKenney. “It’s going to be a road race,” McKenney said of LA’s full court pressure.
“We’re working really hard on conditioning. We had double sessions last week; you saw it in the Boothbay scrimmage. They were pretty worn down,” McKenney said.
The Eagles went 9-9 last year and did not make the playoffs. McKenney looks to improve on that this season. “We’re hoping to build on the .500 record from last year. Medomak is the team to beat in the [KVAC] conference. We’ll gauge ourselves on that,” McKenney said.
Lincoln lost six players from last year’s team, including their top three scorers.
“We’re going to be asking a lot of our seniors, Jalen Lincoln, Ryley and Dylan Leavitt, Nic Phinney, Bo McLain and Merritt Wotton,” McKenney said.
Juniors on the team include Tom Masters, Caleb Farrin, Luke Bibber and Johnathan Riley, and sophomores include AJ Oliver and Seward Matel. “We’ll be bringing up a couple of freshmen here and there to get them ready,” McKenney said.
Lincoln Academy also scrimmaged two Class A schools last week, including Chevrus (lost 44-41) and Cony (lost 51-63).
