Lincoln Academy field hockey picked up their second win of the season, beating Waterville 2-1 on Oct. 2 on the road. The Eagles struck early, scoring just 39 seconds into the game on a shot from Sophie Carbonneau. Kate Laemmle picked up the assist, then scored her own goal on a breakaway three minutes into the game to give the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead.
“They took it right down. It was nice; we were all like ‘wow!’,” co-coach Amanda Armstrong said of Lincoln’s two breakaway goals.
Sarah Sack scored for Waterville in the second half.
Andrea Call made seven saves in net for the Eagles. Coby Dansler and Katelyn White five each for Waterville. Lincoln held a 15-8 advantage in shots.
Spruce Mountain 7 – Lincoln 0
Lincoln held off a tough Spruce Mountain team in the first half action. The Phoenix scored 20 minutes into the game, then added two more by the half to lead 3-0 at the break. Spruce Mountain added four second half goals.
Andrea Call made 25 stops in net for the Eagles, including a first half penalty stroke. “She had a really good game. I am pleased with how the girls played. Emily Hoagland had unbelievable control of the ball for them. They are a very good team,” Armstrong said.
Scoring for the Phoenix were Nicole Hamblin with three, Alexis Besser two, and Patty Ryan and Canyn True one each.
The JV team lost 5-0. Zoe Sewall made seven saves for Lincoln.
