Medomak Valley girls’ soccer team pounced on the Tigers to win 4-2 in Waldoboro on Oct. 7. The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the 1st half on a superb team passing effort.
Julie Ennamorati gave Medomak the lead with 24:30 to go in the half. Maria Ennamorati set up the goal when she stole the ball from Gardiner, and passed to Alanna Vose in the middle. Vose dodged a defender and passed the ball through to M. Ennamorati for a wide open shot.
Vose scored with 15 minutes left in the half when she out hustled Gardiner keeper Maddy Cutler to the ball. J. Ennamorati set up the goal on a cross down low. Emily Leach redirected the cross to Vose to pick up the assist.
Gardiner had a goal called back for a hand ball. Sammi Griffin came up big on defense on a couple of other Tiger breakaways in the half. Medomak had several chances to put the game away early, but missed on open shots from close range.
Medomak came out of the halftime break flat and played a much mellower start to the 2nd half. Gardiner adjusted their line-up and took advantage of the Panthers lack-luster play to tie the game.
Brittany Carver dodged a Panther defender and teed up a shot inside the box to pull the Tigers within one.
Vose put a shot off the cross bar, before being tripped from behind just outside the box, setting up a direct kick. Mallory Conary took the kick and rang a shot off the left post. The Tigers marched down the field and tied the game from 20 yards out on a rocket from Ally Day.
Medomak retook the lead with 18:19 to play when Vose re-entered the game and put in a rebounded Conary shot. Heidi Obuchon put the Panthers up by two with nine minutes to play when she collected a Conary pass on the left side. Obuchon’s soft shot at the corner skirted in past the Tiger keeper.
Medomak held a 20-6 advantage in shots. Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet made three saves and Day and Cutler combined for 14 saves.
