Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team picked up big wins over Lincoln Academy and Oceanside this week to extend their win streak to eight and improve their record to 15-2. The Panthers play their last regular season game of the season on Thurs., Feb. 9 home against Maranacook.
John Murray opened scoring with a 3-pointer, and Medomak held the quarter 14-12. Mariner Tyler Gilson tied the game off the glass to open the 2nd period, and Shea Davenport scored one at the foul line to give Oceanside their first lead of the ball game with 6:16 to go in the half. Medomak went back up by four on an Isaac Greenrose three and Jonathan Hendrickson-Belloguet hoop. Ben Wallace scored and Gilson made good at the line for a three-point play to put the Mariners up again, by one.
Oceanside would not lead again. The Panthers rattled off nine straight to boost their lead to eight, and led 30-22 at the half. Medomak scored the first seven points of the 3rd period to take a 15-point lead. Isaac Greenrose scored on Murray feed, Murray settled his second 3-pointer of the night and crashed the glass for two in the rally. Oceanside went on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to six. Medomak scored six straight, but Oceanside had the last say of the quarter scoring six straight, to pull within six by quarter’s end, 45-39.
H-Belloguet and I. Greenrose opened the final frame with back to back 3’s to give the Panthers a 12 point cushion. The Tigers crawled back into the game at the foul line, making seven of eight shots early in the period.
Davenport connected for a three-point play with 1:27 to play to cut the lead to four. In the final 1:19 to play, Shane Osier went 2 for 2 from the line and scored on a Ryan Ripley feed, and Murray went 4 for 4 at the foul line to maintain the lead.
Medomak scored eight 3-pointers in the game, three from I. Greenrose, two each from Murray and Zach Judkins and one from H-Belloguet. The Panthers held a 40-28 advantage on the boards, led by Murray with 13 rebounds and Ryan Ripley 10.
Scoring for the Panthers were Murray 20 (13R,3S,2A), I. Greenrose 13 (3R,5A,2S), Judkins 8, Ripley 8 (10R,4S,2A), Osier 7 (7R), H-Belloguet 7 (2S), A. Greenrose 6 (3R,6A), and Deering Genthner 2. Scoring for Oceanside were Davenport 19 (6R,4S), Ben Wallace 16, Isaiah Patterson 11 (4S), Tyler Gilson 7 (7R,2B), Sam Meklin 7 (4R), Alex Wallace 3, and Dylan Maloney 1.
The Eagles scored the first six points of the ball game, on a foul shot and two points off the glass from Dylan Leavitt, and a three-pointer from Bo McLain. Lincoln held on for a 15-13 lead at the end of the 1st period.
There were seven lead changes and two ties over the next two periods.
Isaac Greenrose opened the 2nd frame with a three-point play at the line to give Medomak their first lead of the ball game. Jalen Lincoln settled two at the foul line to recapture the lead for the Eagles.
Medomak went on a 10-1 run to take an eight-point lead. LA answered with 10 straight to recapture the lead at the foul line, on two shots from Lincoln with 1:07 to go.
Medomak had the last say of the half with a three-pointer from I. Greenrose to put the Panthers up 29-28 at the break.
