Six wrestlers placed at Regional tournaments on Saturday to qualify for the State Class B championships, to be held Sat., Feb. 18 in Fryeburg. Three wrestlers from Medomak placed in the East Class B championships, held at Medomak Valley in Waldoboro; and three from Lincoln Academy placed in the West Class B tournament held in York.
All four of the Medomak Valley wrestlers will be going to States. Panther wrestlers Stefan Nicholls (138) and Yannick Price-Prevot (220) were East B runner-ups, and Cyril Mille (170) placed third. CeCe Luce (132) placed fifth and will go to States as an alternate.
Nicholls set a new single season school pin record with 24 pins at the East Regional championships.
Camden Hills won East B with 246.5 points, followed by Ellsworth 119, Belfast 89.5, Caribou 87, MDI 82, MCI 75, Medomak 46, Hermon 41, Central 11 and Old Town 9. Camden placed in 12 of 14 weight divisions, taking first in six and second in five brackets.
The numbers in Eastern Maine have dropped off dramatically in the past few years. There were only 83 wrestlers in the tournament in 14 weight classes, or 5.8 kids per weight class.
Nicholls (138) pinned River Massey (MC) in 1:07, and pinned Robert Banner (El) in 5:53 to advance to the finals. Nicholls lost a 3-1 decision to Tom Cassidy (CH) in the finals to take second place.
P-Prevot (220) drew a bye in the first round, pinned Michael Garland (El) in 3:35 in the semifinals, then advanced to the finals where he met Rhett Chase (CH) and lost by 20-5 tech fall.
Miller (170) drew a bye in the first round, was pinned by Ryan Graffam (Her) in 3:57, won by pin over Lucas Murphy (MDI) in 4:52, and pinned David Sheperdson (Her) in the 3:30 to take third place.
Luce (132) was pinned by Coleman Powers (CH) in 51 seconds and was pinned by Tanner Littlefield (MCI) in 25 seconds.
Zaccadelli (106) pinned Adelle Goyetde in 1:03, lost a 20-4 decision to Kyle Bonti, and pinned Luke Spencer in 10 seconds to advance to the consolation round. Zaccadelli pinned Goyetde in 1:21 for third place.
Nate Geoffrion (182) lost a 4-2 decision to Mark Slusher, pinned Mohammad Islam in 2:54 and beat Anthony Boucher by 4-2 decision for third place.
Jimmy Benner (113) drew a bye, was pinned by Dakota Jacques in 1:18 and pinned by Isaac Desrocher in 4:28 for fourth place.
Morgan Achorn (120) was pinned by Dylan Harrington in 3:44 and by Jacob Thorton in 5:08. Lucas Verrier (126) was pinned by Brandon Gill in 32 seconds and by Jackson Howard in 51 seconds.
Miranda Achorn (132) pinned Bryce Skilling in 4:17, was pinned by Chad Bonti in 1:10 and by Chad Daly in 42 seconds. Dylan Flint (145) was pinned by Rafael Mata in 2:53, Mike Sinclair in 1:53 and was pinned by Teddy Durfee. Martin Shott (152) was pinned by Robert Worthley in 2:32 and by Michael Alvarez in 2:05. Blake Hay (160) was pinned by Zac Abram in 4:08 and Zach Cross in 4:12.
Emma Jones (170) beat Sadee Austin 6-3 and lost her next two matches, including being pinned by Forrest Stearns by fall in 25 seconds. Chris Stebner (195) was pinned by Derek Leavitt in 2:23, and pinned Correy Ludeen in 2:54. Stebner placed fifth and is an alternate for States.
