Wiscasset boys’ soccer team picked up wins over Hall-Dale and Winthrop this week to remain undefeated and improve their record to 11-0-1.
Wiscasset jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Ashton Benn put the Redskins on the boards on a penalty kick with 24:29 to go. Tyler Sonia set up the PK after Bulldog keeper Jonathan McNaughton blocked his initial shot. Sonia went for the rebound and was pulled down in the box by McNaughton setting up the PK.
Sonia put in his own rebound with 13:35 to play. Ross Hanley set up the initial shot when he stole the ball at midfield and hit Sonia with a through pass.
John McLeod made it 3-0 at the half. Benn’s shot on net was stopped by McNaughton with a slide tackle, and McLeod picked up the rebound and buried it to the back of the Bulldog net.
Wiscasset opened the second half with a goal 33 seconds into the period. Brian Campbell stole the ball, dribbled up the field and put a through pass to McLeod on the left wing. McLeod dished a little cross to Sonia in the middle and Sonia one timed a shot to the upper right hand corner.
Campbell scored with 27:06 to play when he collected the ball and tore 50 yards down the left wing. Campbell blew by Bulldog defenders and scored inside the opposite post.
Wiscasset held a 28-4 advantage in shots. Redskin defense did not allow a shot in the second half. Mason Brewer earned the shutout with four saves. McNaughton made 15 stops in net for the Bulldogs.
Mason Brewer made two goals in net for Wiscasset to earn the shutout. Cameron MacMillan had seven saves for the Ramblers.
