Lincoln Academy boys were on a roll, beating Oceanside in their KVAC finale to make the West Class B tournament as the 11th seed, and then upsetting sixth ranked Greely in the preliminaries.
But that all ended Feb. 18 when the Eagles flew into a brick wall against third seed Yarmouth in the West B quarterfinals at the Portland Expo.
The Clippers jumped all over Lincoln early, forcing 21 1st quarter turnovers. “We didn’t handle their press at all. They trapped us everywhere,” coach Chris McKinney commented. “It was ugly down there. I called time out and they all looked so scared,” McKinney added.
Yarmouth put the game away early, leading 27-4 at the quarter, 54-12 at the half, and 72-24 at the end of three, on their way to a 77-35 victory.
Scoring for Lincoln were Dylan Leavitt 10 (8R), Travis Creamer 7, Jalen Lincoln 6 (4R,3A), Ryley Leavitt 4 (5R), and John Riley, Luke Bibber, Nic Phinney and Caleb Farrin (2R) two points each. Scoring for Yarmouth were Josh Britten 22, Chris Kraub 15, David Murphy 15, Adam LuBrie 7, Sam Torres 6, Christian Henry 5, Nate Shields Audle 4 and Ethan Gage 3.
