The Lincoln Academy boys team won the KVAC Class B indoor track and field championship on Friday, Feb. 6 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick. The team won the championship despite not having a team member win an individual event.
“It’s definitely rare to see a team win a track title without any individual event champions,” said co-head coach Taylor Holmes. “It’s a testament to the depth and determination of our team. Many athletes were unselfish and willing to step out of their comfort zones early in the season to take on new events that could help the team, and their courage and hard work has really paid off.”
LA piled up 96 points to win the meet, followed by Lawrence (88.5), Morse (66), Winslow (57), and Nokomis (51) in the top five.
The 4×200 relay squad set a new school record when it posted a winning time of 1:37.89 with Bear Grandy, Caleb McArdle, Braden Bessey, and Forest Storer each running a leg. The performance beat the previous LA record of 1:39.24 set by Andrea Brugnoli, Grandy, Storer, and Jordan Anderson in 2025.
The Eagles won the championship without the benefit of points from one of their top performers throughout the season. Senior Owen Card was disqualified in the mile after being cut off by another competitor.

“In the one mile run, Owen attempted to pass an athlete near the inside of lane one at the end of the race, but couldn’t find the room and ended up taking too many steps in the infield, resulting in a lane violation and a disqualification despite being the first to cross the finish line,” said Holmes.
Card experienced rare misfortune again later in the meet, when he tripped and fell in the 2-mile run and did not complete that race.
Top 10 finishes for the Eagles also included Cooper Powell, second in the high jump (5-4) and fourth in the triple jump (36-1); McArdle, second in the 400m dash (55.16) and sixth in the 200m dash (24.86); Storer, third in the 200m dash (24.48) and fourth in the long jump (17-8.5); Alva Gandler, third in the mile run (4:58.09) and fifth in the 800m (2:14.73); Harrison White, third in the 2-mile run (11:57.87) and sixth in the mile run (5:17.16); Grandy, fourth in the 400m dash (56.29) and seventh in the 55m dash (7.12); Alden Fitzgerald-Ward, fourth in the mile run (5:14.20) and fifth in the 2-mile run (12:00.78); Bessey, fifth in the long jump (17-4); Isaiah Felton, sixth in the 55m hurdles (10.39) and eighth in the 400m dash (57.85); Atticus Donaghy, seventh in the triple jump (33-4); Nevan Paulino, seventh in the 2-mile run (12:33.13); Nathanael Clack, eighth in the 2-mile run (12:33.99); and Wilton Scott, ninth in the 800m (2:29.06).
The 4x800m relay team placed fifth with a time of 10:15.24 with Powell, Paulino, Clark, and Scott each running a leg.
