About Us
The Lincoln County News delivers the most comprehensive, in-depth coverage of Lincoln County available anywhere. The print edition arrives on newsstands Wednesday afternoon.
The history of The Lincoln County News dates to the publication of the first edition of the four-page Lincoln Advertiser in 1854, although the newspaper more commonly cites 1875 – the year of a transition in ownership to E.E. Dunbar – as its date of birth.
Dunbar renamed the newspaper The Village Herald and published its first edition on Nov. 15, 1876. The newspaper did not take on the name The Lincoln County News until Feb. 13, 1919, while under the ownership of Leon Gray.
Samuel Erskine purchased The Lincoln County News and published his first edition on Dec. 9, 1920, and the newspaper has been in the family ever since. Samuel Erskine’s great-grandson is the present-day publisher of the newspaper, Chris Roberts.
