The sixth annual Claw Down – Maine Chef’s Lobster Bite Competition, sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Newagen Seaside Inn on Southport Island. This year’s competition has shifted from a local competition to a statewide competition. The competition is open to all Maine chefs but is limited to a total of 15 competitors.
The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce’s signature culinary fundraiser draws lobster fans from all over the U.S. and the world. This event is a great opportunity for Maine chefs to showcase their culinary talents, represent their business or restaurant, and compete against some of Maine’s finest chefs.
Each participating chef will receive a $750 lobster subsidy to help offset the costs of purchasing lobster for the event. Early registrants will be featured on the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce’s website and Facebook page and in all PR surrounding the event, and will have station/table location preference (including use of propane) at the event site.
More than 500 pounds of shucked local lobster will be handcrafted into prizeworthy lobster bites and will be judged on taste, presentation, and creativity. Guests will have the chance to cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award and there will be an award for Best Table and Presentation.
The Judges’ Choice winner will be selected by a panel of three industry-renowned judges: Christopher Papagni of CP Consulting; Pamela Laskey, director and founder of Maine Foodie Tours; and Diane Hudson, food editor of Portland Magazine. The chefs will also have their say as they cast their votes for the Chefs’ Choice Award.
