The Lincoln County News will host a forum with the candidates for Waldoboro selectman at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 30.
Robert “Bob” Butler and Sandra “Sandie” O’Farrell are running for a three-year term. Voters will decide the race June 11.
Butler chairs the Waldoboro Board of Selectmen and sits on the town’s communications technology committee, Sylvania Task Force, and water department committee.
He and his wife, Sally, are the former owners of The Jojoba Co., of Waldoboro. He has a background in the financial and oil industries. He is the treasurer of the Waldoboro Public Library and a member of the Waldoboro Business Association Board of Directors.
O’Farrell sits on the RSU 40 Board of Directors. She describes herself as an “accounting numbers cruncher.” She is the assistant treasurer of the Waldoboro Lions Club.
J.W. Oliver, editor of The Lincoln County News, will moderate the forum. The candidates will take questions from Oliver and from the audience.
“We encourage Waldoboro voters to bring their questions about town issues to the forum,” Oliver said.
“It is an exciting time in Waldoboro, with private and public investment in community needs like the new roof of the Waldo Theatre and the future ladder truck for the fire department,” Oliver said.
“Important questions remain for the board of selectmen to decide, such as the future of the A.D. Gray property and what role the town can play in the response to social issues like addiction and poverty,” he said. “We urge voters to attend the forum as they prepare to shape the future direction of the board.”
The forum will take place in the meeting room at the municipal building, 1600 Atlantic Highway. Refreshments will be available.
