The town of Damariscotta was recently awarded a $50,000 community development block grant for a private, onsite pre-kindergarten program at the Central Lincoln County YMCA. The implementation of the program at the Y will be a new and expanded service to meet the need for full-day childcare and pre-K programs.
Grant funding will support the staffing costs for a professional pre-K lead instructor and curriculum, which will include reading, writing, math and numbers, science, social skills, and creative arts.
The program will support children ages 3 and 4 with the goal of having 15 children participating in the first year.
The addition of the pre-K program will also allow the CLC YMCA Childcare Center in Nobleboro more space to grow its infant and toddler classrooms and provide a better separation of programs to meet the needs of each age group.
The Y is now accepting enrollment applications and is actively seeking a lead teacher for the pre-K program. Employment applications and pre-K enrollment packets are available at the Y, at 525 Main St. in Damariscotta, at the CLC YMCA Childcare Center, at 8 Sand Hill Road in Nobleboro, or online at clcymca.org. Applicants interested in the lead teacher position are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
