A holiday decorating contest to benefit Caring For Kids, an organization dedicated to helping kids of Bristol and South Bristol, will be held by Bristol Parks & Recreation. The first annual contest, “Deck the Homes,” invites Bristol residents to decorate the exterior of their homes with lights, wreaths, scenery, and other decorative ornaments.
Who is eligible:
The home must be located in Bristol (Bristol Mills, Round Pond, Chamberlain, Pemaquid, New Harbor).
How to enter:
Submit a registration form (for oneself or to nominate someone else) to Bristol Parks & Recreation. These are available at Ellingwood Information Center, the town office, various local stores, or from the town website, bristolmaine.org.
The entry fee is $10 (or more, if one prefers). All proceeds will go to Caring for Kids.
Criteria for judging are as follows:
Originality — unique design and creative use of lights and decorations
Arrangement — display and placement of decorations
Theme — story line or scene
Overall — overall presentation
Judging will begin at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18 and will continue for 2-3 hours.
Prizes:
First place: a gift basket worth $200
Second place: a gift basket worth $150
Third place: a gift basket worth $100
