First National Bank recently presented Twin Villages Foodbank Farm in Damariscotta a donation for $1,000 in support of its efforts to grow fresh, delicious food for its neighbors in need in Lincoln County.
In 2015, Megan Taft and Sara Cawthon saw a need for quality fresh food at Lincoln County food pantries. It was clear that while effort was being made to provide families with fresh produce, supply didn’t always meet the demand.
Cawthon and Taft formed a partnership with Damariscotta River Association and began farming on two acres at DRA’s Great Salt Bay Farm using organic growing practices. In 2017, with support from DRA, foundation funding, and the community, the farm produced nearly 30,000 pounds of produce for donation to six Lincoln County food pantries and four other low-income food programs. They hope to deliver even more food in 2018.
