Gov. Paul R. LePage has directed all United States and State of Maine flags be flown at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, May 15, on Peace Officers Memorial Day.
“Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” said LePage. “Recent events in our state serve as a sobering reminder of the sacrifice of these men and women, and of their families. It is important to pause and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Federal law authorizes and requests the president of the United States to designate May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week.
