The Benchwarmers Restaurant & Sports Pub in Brunswick will host a benefit for the family of Kimi Hill from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 9.
Hill was a former employee of Benchwarmers and a good friend, manager Kasie Duffy said.
Upon news of Hill’s tragic death, the restaurant wanted to do something to help her family, Duffy said. Hill, of Wiscasset, died in Somerset County on Sunday, March 20. The Maine State Police are investigating the incident.
Hill worked at Benchwarmers for four years and has been a longtime friend of owner Mike Cota, Duffy said. “She was a regular part of our life,” she said.
Customers who went to Benchwarmers for their wings on Tuesday nights also knew Hill. “It’s a tremendous loss,” Duffy said. The restaurant has served as a public place for people to gather, remember Hill, ask questions, and share their loss, Duffy said.
“It’s nice that we could be that place for people,” Duffy said. Now, the restaurant wants to help ensure ensure Hill’s children, Macie and Brody Shier, are taken care of.
The Show the Love Tribute to Kimi Hill will include an auction to benefit the Macie and Brody Benefit Fund. All proceeds from the auction and 50 percent of the restaurant’s proceeds will go to the fund, Duffy said.
There have been a flood of donations from area businesses for the auction, Duffy said. A band will also play at the benefit.
The Benchwarmers Restaurant & Sports Club is located at 212 Main St. in Brunswick.
