Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta received a $500 grant to fund math and science programs due to the efforts of the manager of a local gas station.
Dixie Haley, the manager of Mr. Mike’s Market in Damariscotta, applied for an Exxon Mobile Education Alliance grant on behalf of the school back in September.
Haley said she chose GSB because many members of her family have attended the school, including her grandchildren.
“This really is a great school. There were a few years off, but most every year we’ve gotten (the grant),” Haley said.
Haley presented GSB Principal Kim Schaff with a $500 check the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 13.
“It’s a wonderful way to enable math and science teachers to purchase resources that they may not have budgeted for,” Schaff said. “It’s also nice to build the community relationships with local businesses.”
