Visitors to Whitefield’s Sheepscot General Store have often complimented owners Ben and Taryn Marcus about their store. The compliment is often followed by the question, “What other things are there here in Whitefield to see and do?”
Members of the Whitefield Economic Development Committee’s map and guide committee are making an effort to answer that question by developing a map and guide that will be handed out to visitors to Whitefield. The guide will be distributed at Whitefield businesses and will include a map, history, recreational sites, a free listing of businesses, and space for paid advertising. The first edition of the guide will be published for distribution this summer.
The mission of the Whitefield Economic Development Committee is to develop new business as well as facilitate growth of the town’s present businesses while still protecting the town’s rural nature. The development and design of the map and guide has been completely created and designed by volunteers and will involve no taxpayer money.
The map and guide committee has a list of present businesses and wants to include as many free listings as possible. However, the list may not be very current and needs to be brought up to date. The committee will call as many on that list as possible, but it would like all those who have not been contacted or that may have new businesses or services to contact Bill McKeen at 446-8891 or maciainchief@gmail.com.
