Once again, Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency’s Project Lifesaver Program announced that it would “light up teal” on Nov. 7 to raise Alzheimer’s awareness as part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Light the World in Teal program.
The annual program, held in November as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, aims to literally shine a spotlight on Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the millions of people affected by it.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency’s Project Lifesaver Program and the Lincoln County Courthouse will be “going teal” together, with sites across the United States and around the world, including in Australia, Canada, China, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. Notably, last year, Lincoln County Courthouse was the only site in Maine to light up in teal; this year, it is being joined by Portland City Hall.
This is the sixth year of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Light the World in Teal campaign and the largest one to date, and the second for the Project Lifesaver Program. Last year, well over 200 sites in the U.S. and around the globe participated in Light the World.
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America welcomes other businesses and landmarks to join Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency’s Project Lifesaver Program and the Lincoln County Courthouse in illuminating their buildings in teal. Individuals can also take part in the initiative by wearing teal-colored clothing or replacing their porch or indoor lights with teal bulbs for the day and posting on social media.
