Less than three years after its launch, lcnme.com, the website of The Lincoln County News, has reached 10 million page views.
The website reached the milestone in the overnight hours of Thursday, Feb. 7 into Friday, Feb. 8. The company marked the occasion with a celebratory pizza party.
“This is an exciting, incredible accomplishment that everyone at Lincoln County Publishing Co. has helped to achieve in such a short period of time,” said John Roberts, associate publisher of The Lincoln County News. “Like the newspaper, lcnme.com is an extension of the community, and it is great to see such support from our readers to help us hit this milestone.”
The Lincoln County News launched the new website in July 2016, replacing an out-of-date site difficult for both employees and readers to use. Amber Clark, graphic designer and website administrator at LCN, designed and built the website with technical support from Roberts.
“We built the new site with our readers in mind, focusing on our local news, businesses, and events of Lincoln County,” Roberts said. “To support the website and our award-winning journalism, we made the conscious decision to respect the privacy of our readers and have only advertising from local companies and organizations that work tirelessly to support our community rather than inundate the reader with ads based on their browsing history.”
The website took first place in the General Excellence – Digital category in the 2018 Maine Press Association Better Newspaper Contest in the division for large weekly newspapers. The judges called the site the “clear winner” for its “well-organized information and pleasant design.”
Since its debut, the site has averaged more than 320,000 page views a month. As of press time, lcnme.com has 10,045,984 views.
According to similarweb.com, a website that analyzes internet traffic, a visitor views an average of 4.72 pages per day and spends an average of three minutes and 53 seconds on the site in a day.
While everything from the print edition of The Lincoln County News is posted on LCNme.com, only a small portion of the content is available for free. Both online subscribers and newspaper subscribers have access to all content, including the e-edition of The Lincoln County News.
