The Nobleboro Historical Society’s illustrated talk titled “Maine Statehood in 1820: Hard-won and Controversial,” to be presented by Carolyn Hardman, was canceled last Friday night, Nov. 1, because of power outages. It is rescheduled for this Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Nobleboro Historical Center. It will be an excellent presentation to begin to learn about the issues Maine faced in 1820 as the decision was made to split from Massachusetts and become a state.
The meeting is free and open to the public. There will be a short business meeting before the program and refreshments will be served afterward, with time to talk with the speaker. The historical center is located at 198 Center St., directly in front of the Nobleboro Central School. For more information, contact Mary Sheldon 563-5376 or sheldon@tidewater.net.
