The Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club is launching a new summer effort to help feed hungry children in Lincoln County. Through the generosity of Supplies Unlimited in Damariscotta, a shed opposite the store on Business Route 1 will be used by volunteers from the Rotary Club to distribute free food to children up to age 18 on a walk-in basis. Both food for immediate snacking and food to prepare at home will be supplied.
The hours of distribution for summer 2017 will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The shed will start off with initial food supplied by donations from a YMCA-sponsored Fill the Bus event on Saturday, July 22, with the cooperation of the Hannaford Supermarket in Damariscotta.
The Rotary Club will also happily accept donations of food or cash in support of this project. With all the many initiatives that complement each other, working together, hunger can be ended in Lincoln County.
