The Round Pond Schoolhouse Association is accepting applications for its eighth annual William Irving Smith Scholarship. The $2,000 prize will be given to a Bristol resident for his or her higher education.
Since 2018, the association has awarded the scholarship in honor of William (Bill) Smith, a Round Pond native, who graduated from Washington Grammar School in 1946 and Bristol High School in 1950. Smith currently serves as the association’s director and museum committee chair.
Applicants must be a Bristol resident to be considered. Eligible applicants can either be a senior in high school, or a first year, sophomore, or junior in college, trade school, technical school, or community college. Applicants can be a current student or someone who plans to resume his or her studies.
Previous applicants and scholarship winners remain eligible to apply for the 2026 award which will be awarded this spring.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 15. The application form can be downloaded at roundpondschoolhouse.org or from the Lincoln Academy senior portal. It’s also available by writing to the Round Pond Schoolhouse Association, P.O. Box 205, Round Pond, ME 04564.
