For the first time ever, Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop is offering a half-price sale on books that appear on schools’ summer reading lists.
“Recently, the Maine State Library announced that the popular interlibrary loan program would shut down temporarily, but for much of the summer,” Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop, said. “One of our volunteers wondered if this would make it difficult for students to get the books they need to fulfill summer reading requirements. Another volunteer suggested the sale.
“We won’t have all the books,” Bensen continued, “but we’re likely to have some of them. Find the books you need, tell the volunteer at the payment desk that the books are on your school’s summer reading list, and pay half-price.”
The sale is in effect now and will last until school starts.
The book shop is located at 17 Backstreet Landing in downtown Damariscotta and is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a major source of funding for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, staff members are volunteers, and proceeds support the library’s programs and collections.
Donations are accepted whenever the shop is open.
