A stairway used in a recent hurricane-relief effort has gone missing, believed stolen, from The American Legion Wells-Hussey Post No. 42 in Damariscotta.
The organizers of the effort used the stairway to load items into a trailer for delivery to Hurricane Irma victims in Florida.
Yankee Pride Transport owner Larry Sidelinger, one of the organizers of the effort, said the stairs disappeared between noon and 1:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 18.
Sidelinger had planned to use the steps for the upcoming Damariscotta Pumpkinfest, so he hopes whoever has them returns them as soon as possible.
Sidelinger said the steps can be returned, with no questions asked, to the post or to Yankee Pride Transport at 1 Midcoast Road in Damariscotta.
