In honor of the victims of the attacks in Brussels, Belgium, Governor Paul R. LePage has directed State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately until Saturday, March 26 at sunset. President Barack Obama also issued a proclamation in honor of the victims of the attacks in Belgium, directing all American flags be lowered to half-staff for the same length of time.
Additionally, LePage has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of all Mainers, we offer our deepest condolences and will continue to pray for the victims, their families, and the citizens of Belgium. As both Mainers and Americans, we condemn these senseless attacks and stand united in support of the people of Belgium.”
While there have been no known threats to the United States, Mainers are reminded to stay alert to their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity.
