The Waldoboro Conservation Commission has scheduled the official opening of the Town Forest Trail for Saturday, July 1 at 2 p.m. This trail, which passes through an ancient hemlock forest, is an important site for hiking and cross-country skiing.
According to Waldoboro Conservation Commission member Edward Fisher, “The trail is still a work in progress. We need to maintain some of the wet spots, and consider what to do with the ‘tire city’ left some years ago. But we want our residents and their pets to start using the trail and enjoying the hemlock grove.”
Participants should assemble at 2 p.m. on July 1 at the trailhead, located at the west end of the commuter parking lot at the top of the Route 1 hill heading south toward Damariscotta.
