Fifty trees lit up Damariscotta and Newcastle last year as part of the first-ever Villages of Light celebration. For 2018, the committee behind the event hopes to make the festivities bigger and brighter with an additional 25 trees.
For $150, businesses, groups, individuals, or families can sponsor a tree to celebrate the holidays, honor children or grandchildren, or honor the memory of a loved one. The live, 4- to 5-foot Christmas trees will line the streets of the Twin Villages.
The sponsorship includes tree installation on pallets, three strands of white battery-operated LED lights, batteries, a sponsor plaque, and tree installation on Nov. 18 and removal in early January. Sponsors will be responsible for decorations and tree toppers.
Local merchants and building owners are also encouraged to get into the spirit by decking storefronts, windows, and buildings with lights and decorations that will add to this year’s festivities.
The committee is also in search of 20-foot-tall trees to be located at Veterans Memorial Park in Newcastle and Chapman-Hall House and Damariscotta River Association’s Round Top Farm in Damariscotta. Anyone who might have a tree that fits the bill is encouraged to contact John Roberts at 563-3171.
To reserve a tree, email villagesoflight@gmail.com or call Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce at 563-8340. For additional information, find Villages of Light on Facebook and Instagram.
