The trustees of the Union Fair – Maine Wild Blueberry Festival, serving Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo counties, are launching their annual contest to choose a design suitable for use in publicizing the 2018 fair, running Aug. 18-25.
Entries should reflect the themes of this traditional agricultural fair, which include, but may not be limited to, blueberries, agriculture, fairs/carnivals, farm animals, 4-H, crafts, and harness racing, etc. Posters should reflect both the aspects of a traditional agricultural fair and the Wild Blueberry Festival. Artwork should be poster size, approximately 14 inches by 20 inches and need not include lettering, dates, etc.
The selected artist will be awarded a prize of $500. All rights to the selected design will become the property of the Union Fair. It is hoped that the artist will be available, but not required, to attend one or more days during fair week to be recognized and to sign posters, etc.
The medium is the artist’s choice but the work must be in color. Remember that the selected design will be utilized in the production of posters and other media, so colors should be strong and the design bold and graphic, and one should avoid elements that do not reproduce clearly, such as shading.
Entries may be submitted at any time through Saturday, March 31 and should be delivered to: Union Fair – Matthews Museum, c/o George R. Gross, P.O. Box 582, Union, ME 04862.
Entries may also be dropped off at the Union town office on Common Road in Union, marked “attn.: Jay Feyler.”
The winner will be announced in April.
This year’s Union Fair — Maine Wild Blueberry Festival will be held from Saturday, Aug. 18 through Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Union Fair grounds just off Route 17 in Union. For more information, go to unionfair.org.
