On Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the United States Postal Service in Damariscotta will join in celebrating the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta by offering souvenir postmarks at the Damariscotta post office, 173 Main St., Damariscotta.
The picture postmark is free. The postmark will be applied to any envelope that has proper postage, making it a first-class souvenir of the day. The postmark bears an image of a carved jack-o’-lantern pumpkin with an outboard motor and was provided at the request of the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta committee.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. People attending the local events may obtain the postmark in person at the post office. Those who miss the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta but wish to obtain the postmark may submit a mail order request. Pictorial postmarks are available only with the dates indicated, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the pictorial postmark date.
Customers wishing to obtain a postmark should affix first-class mail postage to any envelope or postcard, address the envelope or postcard, and tuck in the flap in the case of envelopes. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Postmaster, Damariscotta Post Office, 17 Main St., Damariscotta, ME 04543.
After applying the pictorial postmark, the U.S. Postal Service will return the items (with or without addresses) under addressed protective cover.
