The annual Walt Gallant Walk-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, April 9 at 1 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, April 23, at the downtown branch of Damariscotta Bank & Trust. The walk will cover approximately three miles, ending back at the bank. Part of the money raised from the walk will be donated to the diabetes prevention program at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus. The remaining funds are available to anyone who might need help with diabetes issues.
Gallant moved to the area in the early 1950s and immediately became involved in the community. He served on many committees to do with town government, became fire chief, and was a member of the Damariscotta-Newcastle Lions Club on the local, district, and multidistrict level. He was an extremely busy man. Along the way, he built a successful well-drilling business and became a founding director of Damariscotta Bank & Trust. He was a very well-loved man by his family and his community.
Gallant’s life was cut short because of complications from diabetes. The walk is a way for the Lions Club and his community to honor his contributions.
The Lions ask for support from anyone in this area and those affected by this serious disease. Donate to any Lions Club member or by contacting Lion Tim Clark at 549-4790.
