Women, Infants, and Children is a nonprofit supplemental food and nutrition program assisting income eligible families. WIC provides supplemental food packages, breastfeeding support, free nutrition information, and guidance and referrals to other community programs to:
– women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, and up to six months postpartum
– infants and children up to the age of five, including foster children
– fathers, who may also apply for their children
WIC serves working and nonworking families. One might be surprised who qualifies. Eligibility is based on a family’s gross household income level, or one can be automatically income eligible if he or she receives MaineCare, SNAP, or TANF. An application for services can be conducted on the telephone or people are welcome to stop in the Rockland WIC office to see if they qualify and to make an appointment.
Those living in the Midcoast area can call Midcoast Maine Community Action’s Rockland WIC office at 594-4329, or toll free at (866) 260-6609, to see if their family qualifies for WIC.
The Midcoast Maine Community Action WIC program has offices and outreach sites in Bath, Topsham, Richmond, Boothbay, Damariscotta, Waldoboro, Union, Belfast, Liberty, Brooks, Frankfort, and Unity.
