Congratulations to Owen Williamson who has been selected for the 2019 Willow Grange scholarship. He will be studying diesel hydraulic mechanics at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle and is a recent Lincoln Academy graduate. He will receive his $500 check after successfully completing his first semester.
Our first public supper of the season is Saturday, June 22 at the grange hall, 71 Washington Road (Route 126), Jefferson. The menu includes baked beans (2 kinds), ham, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, salads, homemade biscuits and rolls, and don’t forget our scrumptious pies for dessert. The cost is $8 adults, $4 for 5 to 10 years old, and little kids get in for free. This is how we raise money for our scholarship and other community service projects.
Friday, June 21, will be another card party (we play 63). We gladly teach the game and welcome new people. We start with a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. and cards start around 7 p.m. and finish at 9 p.m. We just ask a dollar or two donation for the paper products. Card parties are held the first, third and fifth Fridays of the month.
June 13 found 24 people at the Grange eating fried chicken, spaghetti pie, macaroni and cheese, clam casserole, chicken noodle casserole, scalloped potatoes, green bean, ambrosia, and garden and potato salads. Dessert included chocolate chip cookies, raspberry swirl ice cream with chocolate sauce, and apple pie. No duplicates which is amazing.
The Homeward Bound Hospice Choir of Lincoln County entertained us with their singing. As hearing is the last sense most of us have, their service is much appreciated by hospice patients and their families. The group reports they will sing if requested and people do not have to be terminal to have 4 or 5 singers at their bedside. Thanks to all nine choir members who came to our program.
Paula made and raffled off five pies. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated lecturer (program director). Proceeds from donut selling, the pie auction and ongoing trash and treasure table sales totaled $143 and were donated to the hospice choir.
Errol T. Clark turned 90 years old that evening and Mary Sheldon made high bid on the custard pie and then turned it over to him, I donated my second bag of donuts for the evening, and we all signed a card for him.
We had no business meeting just opening the bible, presenting the flag and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. We firmed up plans for the public supper before having our Lecturer March (raffle). The prizes, all homemade, were grape jelly (Errol A.), relish (Eunice), corn relish (Diane), and donuts (Geraldine, Deborah and Newt, a member of the choir).
We meet again June 27 for election of new officers for the fall. We would enjoy visitors who would like to help tally votes.
We meet the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. preceded by our 6:30 p.m. potluck meal (bring food to share). You are always welcomed to any of our events as we love company.
