Every year since 1992, wreaths from Maine have been transported to Arlington National Cemetery to be placed on the graves of veterans for the holiday season. Since that time, Wreaths Across America has become an annual national endeavor. The escort to Arlington starts Sunday, Dec. 11 in Harrington, and finishes on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Arlington National Cemetery.
For the second year, Medomak Valley High School is included in the impressive list of stops on the first day of the convoy. The public is invited to the school’s campus, located at 320 Manktown Road in Waldoboro, where a convoy of tractor-trailer trucks loaded with handmade wreaths and numerous specially decorated vehicles carrying Gold Star family members and dignitaries will arrive with an escort of law enforcement vehicles and firetrucks. In a short ceremony in the Medomak Valley High School gymnasium at 3 p.m., veterans will be presented with honorary wreaths, as will representative dignitaries from our five-town community. Wear red, white, and blue and bring flags to wave to participate in Wreaths Across America’s mission to remember, honor, and teach.
