The Central Lincoln County YMCA and the Boothbay Region YMCA are offering teen leadership opportunities this summer for youth ages 13-15.
Camp K Leader in Training and Counselor in Training programs provide opportunities that prepare teens to not only become staff members at camp but to also become productive members and volunteers in their home communities. Participants work side by side with camp directors and camp staff to lead daily camp activities and will join forces with local organizations to volunteer in and around the community.
The Leader in Training program is designed to begin a career in leadership, with discussions and activities about types of leadership, communication styles and methods, service work, and team building. Leaders in training will participate in daily camp activities and are expected to work side by side with camp staff.
The Counselor in Training program focused on teaching styles, delivery methods, communication techniques, and planning preparation. Counselor in trainings must be strong, independent, and focused on helping make a better community for all. With this, they will gain valuable hands-on experience working with youth, leading programs and activities. Counselors in training will participate in daily camp activities and are expected to work side by side with camp staff.
Both Camp K Leader in Training and Counselor in Training programs run in four-week sessions, June 25-July 20 and July 23-Aug. 17. Leader in Training session fees are $250 for family members, $300 for members, and $400 for nonmembers; the Counselor in Training program is free.
New this year is the Y-Arts Leader in Training and Counselor in Training program, designed for youth interested in continuing their dedication to the arts at the YMCA. Theater Camp leaders and counselors in training will work with Theater Camp staff to take on more of a leadership role while still enjoying the perks of being a camper. Theatre Camp leaders and counselors in training will perform in Theater Camp shows as well as participate in daily Theater Camp activities. As a prerequisite, leaders and counselors in training must have attended Theater Camp in previous summers or completed an interview with the program director, Emily Mirabile. Contact Mirabile at emirabile@brymca.org.
The Y-Arts Leader in Training and Counselor in Training program runs in two-week sessions, June 25-July 6, July 9-20, July 30-Aug. 10 and Aug. 13-24. Leader in Training session fees are $125 for family members, $150 for members, and $200 for nonmembers; Counselor in Training is free.
