Enrollment in the inaugural season closes on Friday, Sept. 1. For additional information and an application, go to lcct.org and click the “movies” tab. Or pick up an application when visiting the theater and enjoying a movie, musical, and/or play – all of which are taking place this week.
Royal Shakespeare Company’s ‘Julius Caesar’ (2 hours, 32 minutes)
Caesar returns from war, all-conquering, but mutiny is rumbling through the corridors of power. It is the classic tale in which politics of spin and betrayal turn to violence. Following his sellout productions of Tom Morton-Smith’s “Oppenheimer” (2014) and James Fenton’s adaptation of “Don Quixote” (2016), director Angus Jackson steers the thrilling action as the race to claim the empire spirals out of control. Might it give echo to our current times? Plays at 2 and 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17.
‘Dunkirk’ (PG-13: 1 hour 46 minutes)
Acclaimed auteur Christopher Nolan directs this World War II thriller about the evacuation of Allied troops from the French city of Dunkirk before Nazi forces can take hold. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance co-star, with longtime Nolan collaborator Hans Zimmer providing the score. Plays at 2 and 7 p.m., Friday-Sunday, Aug. 18-20 and at 7 p.m. only on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
