An eBay auction of a signed copy of Stephen King’s new book with an inscription from the author will benefit scholarships for journalism students in Maine.
The inscription says: “Read your local newspaper, and support journalism!” The book is “The Institute.” King donated the book to benefit the Maine Press Association scholarship fund.
The Maine Press Association holds an auction at its annual conference to fund the scholarship. The King book arrived in the mail too late for this year’s auction Oct. 19, so it was decided to open the bidding to the general public.
“We are grateful to Mr. King for this donation and his support of journalism education in Maine,” said Maine Press Association President J.W. Oliver, editor of The Lincoln County News. “We are fans of Mr. King’s writing and excited to be able to offer this item to advance the future of newspapers in our state.”
The auction went live at 8 a.m., Friday, Oct. 25 at ebay.com/itm/193174561524 and will run for 10 days, through 8 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 3.
