Douglas Smith, of Rockland, will be exhibiting his paintings in the Hall Gallery at LincolnHealth — Miles Campus in Damariscotta from Sunday, Jan. 8 through Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. A selection of oils and watercolors based on Smith’s travels near and far afield will be displayed in the Hall Gallery, just inside the main entrance to the hospital. Smith studied from 1987-1990 at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art in Old Lyme, Conn., where he received the first John Stobart Fellowship for Outdoor Painting in 1989 and also studied portrait painting with Aaron Shikler.
Smith has traveled to Europe, painting in Italy, France, Spain, England, and Russia. There will be several works in the show from Italy, along with works created in Maine and Connecticut over the last two decades, with the most recent from this past summer on Great Spruce Head Island.
“I like to paint a wide variety of subjects under any and all conditions, striving to imbue my work with enough information to create a visual diary, a memory note of the places and people I have painted,” Smith said.
