Harbor Theater is offering a free holiday showing of the 2003 movie “Elf” on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. Free small bags of popcorn will be handed out to anyone under 18.
As a nonprofit, independent cinema, Harbor Theater’s mission is to serve the community as a cultural asset. The theater is planning at least three free movies a year for the whole community, plus four free school shows for the students of district AOS 98.
“Elf” is a movie full of yuletide cheer, a spirited, good-natured family comedy, and it benefits greatly from Will Ferrell, who stars as Buddy, a regular-sized man who was raised as an elf by Santa Claus (played by Edward Asner). When the news is finally broken to Buddy that he’s not a real elf, he decides to head back to his place of birth, New York City, in search of his biological family.
“Elf” also stars James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Zooey Deschanel, and Bob Newhart.
“‘Elf’ is a Christmas comedy that’s as sweet-natured and goofily amusing as its title character,” said John Hazelton, of Screen International.
Harbor Theater is located at 185 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, at the junction of Routes 27 and 96, in Boothbay Harbor, across from Hannaford Supermarket.
