The current art exhibit in the office gallery of Pemaquid Watershed Association is by photographer Rick Horton. His show is titled “Eclectic Works” and is a sampling of his photography. There will be a reception for Horton on Friday, Aug. 17, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend to view the photography and to speak with the artist.
With this show, Horton freely admits that he refuses to work in only one category. About the evolution of his work, Horton says, “The title of this show, ‘Eclectic Works,’ matches well my background. Beginning in education as a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor, I have worked in several disciplines, including as an office manager, secretary, trainer in the handling of violence and its potential, and currently as a substance abuse counselor with over 18 years working with correctional clients, including 16 years with the Maine State Prison system. In addition, I am an athlete, a singer, a writer.”
Horton’s serious attention to photography began with close-ups of the flowers in his wife, Judith’s, garden, where he learned to develop his own eye for his subjects.
This PWA photography exhibit can be viewed weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by visiting PWA’s office at 584 Main St. in Damariscotta, which is across from Young’uns. Horton is donating 35 percent of proceeds from sales of the artwork to support PWA’s mission-driven work.
