“The Everyday Gardener,” an exhibition of large paintings by Maine artist Lynn Travis, is on view at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, at 132 Botanical Gardens Drive in Boothbay, through Oct. 31. The gardens and the exhibit are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travis’s paintings offer an intimate view of the interaction between plants and their relationship to the viewer, which is what intrigues Travis and inspires much of her artwork.
“I paint what I love — plants, people, and the landscape,” Travis said. She hopes her paintings prompt viewers to consider their own relationships to these subjects — how they interact with nature and with one another: “Are we good stewards of our environment? Are we considerate to each other and to the land that sustains us? How do the various elements in nature, ourselves included, live together?”
Travis, who resides in Lincolnville and works in the wellness department at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta, has exhibited at the Caldbeck Gallery and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, both in Rockland, and Greenhut Gallery in Portland, among others. Her artwork has been selected for juried shows, included in public and private collections, and has been the subject of multiple solo exhibitions.
