Linda Mercer and Linda Healy, hand weavers from Newcastle, will participate in the second annual Arts in the Field event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Good Neighbors Park, 45 River Road in Cushing.
Mercer enjoys weaving hand towels and scarves, as well as table linens, baby blankets, throws, and rag rugs. Her choice of fibers includes cotton, Tencel, wool, silk, and linen. Bold colors, inspired from her flower gardens, and a variety of weave structures are reflected in her work. Sheepscot Handwovens can be found year round at the Sheepscot General Store in Whitefield.
Like many artists, Healy finds colorways, patterns, and inspiration from the natural world, but she also gives a nod to her Swedish heritage and historic Scandinavian weaving techniques. Healy will have a wide variety of textiles for sale, including blankets, rugs, tapestries and towels. Those who appreciate the look, feel, and function of finely crafted textiles will appreciate the heirloom quality of her work. Additional information about her process and work is available at tidalweaves.com.
Good Neighbors Park is a wonderful venue for an art fair. More than a dozen vendors will be stationed along a mowed path that follows the waters’ edge.
Arts in the Field is hosted by the Cushing Historical Society. The event is weather permitting. For more information, email cushingaitb@gmail.com.
