Gallery One, at 1 Townsend Ave. in Boothbay Harbor, upstairs above the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery, presents “A Sense of Time and Place: Four Seasons Maine, New Work by Jean Kigel.” The exhibit runs from Aug. 28 to Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
A reception with the artist will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 from 5-7 p.m. during the Friday art walk.
On view will be Kigel’s oils and watercolors of Midcoast Maine depicting spring flowers, summer waters, fall bounty, and winter peace. Kigel’s watercolor florals, acclaimed by Carl Little, and her iconic lobsters will be highlights of the show.
Also one can expect to see seasonal Asian brush paintings, for which Kigel is well known. A member of the Sumi-e Society of America and the Union of Maine Visual Artists, Kigel celebrated a sellout solo show in Manhattan in 2010; her work is exhibited in galleries throughout New England. And notably, her paintings have shown in the American Embassy in Amman, Jordan, and are currently at the American Embassy in Paris.
