Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta launches its fourth season of Stories to Screen with a free book giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the theater, at 2 Theater St.
In Stories to Screen, the theater screens a family film for free on select Saturday mornings, based on a classic story. Copies of the book on which the films are based are also given out – though reading of the book is not required to attend and enjoy the movie.
This fall, the theater celebrates Dr. Seuss with “The Lorax,” “Horton Hears a Who,” and “The Cat in the Hat.” It also celebrates 150th birthday of Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale “Little Women.” There are 50 free copies of each book available for pickup – one per family, please.
“Horton Hears a Who,” rated G, will screen Saturday, Sept. 22. “The Lorax,” rated PG, will screen on Saturday, Sept. 29. “The Cat in the Hat” will screen on Saturday, Nov. 3. All showings are at 10 a.m.
“Little Women” takes over in October with free showings of the first major dramatization in 24 years of Louisa May Alcott’s novel about the lives of the four March sisters during the American Civil War as they learn to navigate love, loss, and the trials of growing up. This three-part BBC/Masterpiece series will play Saturday, Oct. 13, 20, and 27 at 10 a.m.
Additional information can be found on the theater’s website, lcct.org. Stay tuned for the next series as well, when Lincoln Theater will celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Harry Potter” by giving away complete sets of the books and showing all eight “Harry Potter” films.
