The Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset will again provide a venue for promising artists from seven local schools with an exhibit, the Youth Art Exhibit, beginning Saturday, May 5. The gallery will be open weekends from noon-4 p.m. until the closing day for the show, Sunday, May 20. An opening reception will be held on May 5 from 2-4 p.m.
The old Wiscasset Academy building, at 15 Warren St. in Wiscasset, is home to the Maine Art Gallery, whose mission is to foster creativity and cultural expression in Maine. As a former schoolhouse, it is also an appropriate setting for this display of student art.
Schools participating in the Youth Art Exhibit include Great Salt Bay Community School, Juniper Hill School for Place-Based Education, Medomak Valley High School, Sheepscot Valley Children’s House, Wiscasset Christian Academy, Wiscasset Elementary School, and Wiscasset Middle High School.
On Saturday, May 12, at 3 p.m., illustrator and children’s book author Marcia Sewall will present a special talk at the gallery on the process of creating a children’s picture book.
